Did you just run through the rain wearing your hearing aids Or spent an hour on a hot, humid subway. You’ve likely experienced either one of these situations, regardless of whether you live in Singapore and Sweden. Your hearing aids don’t like moisture. Here are some tips to dry your hearing aids.

Electronic devices such as hearing aids can be affected by humidity and water. It’s not surprising. What is it about water that causes so much damage? It’s not often the water that causes harm to the electronic device. It is the microscopic impurities in the water and the ions. Unlucky people may find that the ions in water create a chain which connects two contacts in an electronic device. When your device is powered on, the ion chains will cause the electricity to go somewhere it shouldn’t. This causes a power shortage. Annoying, right? !

The theory is that you could dry the device and make it work once again, assuming the ions weren’t the problem. We wouldn’t recommend that you try this approach.

Another challenge is metal parts

An electronic device’s circuit is made up of metal. Hearing aids have metal parts that are protected from corrosion by a coating. Sometimes, however, this coating may not be enough. If the hearing aid is left in constant contact with rain or humidity, it may not be dried properly. You wouldn’t do the same to your smartphone or watch.

A hearing aid dryer is necessary to keep your hearing aids dry.

Hearing aids are built to withstand humidity and water. Hearing aids are protected by a coating on metal parts and a design that prevents water from getting in easily. However, this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t make sure they stay dry. Your hearing aids will last longer if you take extra care of them.

There are many options for drying your hearing aids. Some of the most popular methods are drying boxes and dehumidifiers.

How to use a drying box for hearing aids

Drying boxes can be used to dry your hearing aids using heat and air. These boxes are available for both conventional and rechargeable hearing aids and are easy to use. You can simply place your conventional hearing aids into the drying box and close it again. Then, hit the start button. Drying can take between 45 minutes and 8 hours.

Also, dry boxes for rechargeable hearing aids can be used as chargers

This is a great idea because it allows you to dry your hearing aids overnight and then have them charged the next day. Voila!

It’s best to dry your hearing aids immediately after you take them outside in the rain or accidentally put them in the water. You can also use UV lighting to disinfect your devices while drying them.

Non-electronic humidifiers for hearing aids

We’re talking about drying boxes, so listen to us! Desiccants are another way to dehumidify hearing aids. You can choose from pellets, discs, or linings for your hearing aids. This is a great option when you don’t have a power outlet nearby and can’t connect to a drying box for your hearing aids. You can easily find desiccants online or in your local pharmacy.

Protect your hearing aids from the elements with a sleeve

Water-resistant pouches are available for hearing aids. These pouches can be used to protect them from water and humidity. This is a huge advantage if you play sports with your hearing aid and sweat a lot.
