Connecting to your Smartphones with Your Hearing Aids

Wireless can seem overwhelming. It’s easy to enjoy the benefits of streaming. You don’t have to know how to use your Bluetooth hearing aids. Read on. If you’re in the area, come visit Pensacola’s best hearing center.

Connecting Hearing Aids to Your Smartphone

There are increasing numbers of hearing aids that can be used with smartphones. This technology allows you to send audio directly from your smartphone, tablet, or laptop to your hearing aids. Your hearing aids can be used as wireless headphones. Not all hearing aids with Bluetooth are smartphone-compatible — only the ones designated Made for iPhone or Made for Android.

It’s easy to set these up — the technology takes care of most of it! The idea works regardless of whether you use Android-compatible or Apple-compatible hearing aids. Only the difference is how you use your smartphone to make it all happen.

Turn on your Bluetooth

Go to the Settings app on your Android or iPhone. Locate Bluetooth near the top of your menu. Select it and then turn it on.

Find your hearing aids on the list

Go back to Settings on your iPhone. Scroll down and find Accessibility. Select it. Scroll down to the bottom of that menu and find Hearing Devices. Click on it. You should see your hearing aids listed.

Once you have turned on Bluetooth on your Android phone, it should start “looking” for other Bluetooth devices to connect to. Your hearing aids will be displayed within seconds.

If your phone does not list your hearing aids in a matter of seconds on either one of the phones, it may be necessary to close and open the battery doors or place them on the charger. The phone will then turn them on and off again.

Choose your hearing aids

Select your hearing aids when your phone lists them as an option. It may take between 30 seconds and a minute for them to connect.

Smartphone streamers

Even if your hearing aids don’t have a Made for iPhone or Android version, you can wirelessly stream audio from your smartphone directly to your hearing aids. You will need a small, wireless device called a streamer. It can either be clipped to your collar or hangs from the neck, and can be concealed underneath your clothes.

Every manufacturer has their own version. The instructions for connecting are often easier than the above and are available in the streamer.

Other streamers

Many situations — even with smartphone-compatible hearing devices — require a streamer if you want audio sent to your hearing aids. You can find a streamer for everything from TV streamers to microphones (for talking in noisy environments), to help you hear your surroundings better.

Each manufacturer has their own range of streamers. The instructions for connecting are often easier than the above and can be found on the streamer’s website.
