My Hearing Aids are not Working, AGAIN?

We all know that family member or even ourselves that begin to get frustrated as people start repeating what they are saying. Questions start coming, “Are you wearing your hearing aids?” “Do those things ever work?” “Did we waste our money on those hearing aids?” “Why aren’t you wearing them today?”. You know the list of questions goes on and on. The real questions are “Do you know hearing aids need to be cleaned and maintained regularly?” “Do you know that your hearing can change year to year, and you need to be retested so that the hearing aids can be readjusted?” “When is the last time you saw your hearing aid specialist?”. 

Hearing aids must be cleaned and maintained regularly. This affects each person differently with the environments and just natural build up of wax and skin cells. Most hearing aid cleaning appointments can be completed in a matter of ten to fifteen minutes and are often at no charge. We recommend a cleaning schedule tailored to each patient’s needs. You may ask, “Can I do this on my own?”. The answer is most definitely, but your specialist will have some deep cleaning tools that may be needed from time to time that you may not desire to purchase. Hearing aids also may need adjustments. Your hearing can change each year and you should get your hearing tested by your hearing aid specialist. The specialist does this to reprogram your current hearing aids and help you continue to hear the best you can on your hearing journey. These appointments may take up to an hour according to the questions and needs of each patient.
